Many shoppers have been turned off by the prospect of having to use their Visa or MasterCard when purchasing from Sears. In the past Sears has experimented with accepting both MasterCard and Visa at its retail outlets on a limited basis only.
The new test announced yesterday is even broader. The trial is going to start at 10am on Sunday morning in Miami; Orlando; Toledo; San Diego; Cleveland, Ohio; San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. Stores in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle are also expected to carry the service. Other stores will be added as the test continues.
Customers have been hesitant to use their credit cards or debit cards at Sears since they fear they may not be able to get cash back on their purchases. The good news for shoppers is that the bank card can be used at stores that accept Visa or MasterCard. The retailer is taking a different approach by allowing customers to use either type of card and not just debit or credit cards. This means shoppers who have debit cards at other locations will be able to use the same card at Sears.
The bank cards can be used anywhere. It does not matter if you don't have cash available. The merchant will still make the transaction and the consumer will be given a refund.
The bank cards are issued to customers who can show a bank statement and proof of identification. A shopper will need to show a recent pay check or bank statement to get a card. A customer cannot use a credit card at any time to make purchases from Sears.
If you want to try out the new card, register online. You'll need to verify your address and the number of cardholders. Once you've completed this step and verified your details, you can use the card online or at your local stores.
To make sure you always have a charge card on you, sign up for a recurring monthly credit card. The card can be used at any time to make purchases or to make a cash withdrawal. Once you're signed up, you will receive an electronic e-mail or text message to alert you when you reach your limit.
If you're a customer who can't make a purchase, cancel your store card by calling a toll free number. The number is listed in your email or text message.
You should keep this information in mind if you plan on using the card. If you do, you'll be happy you did.
