MasterCard got its start in the early 1900's when it received a patent for an automatic bank teller. This helped the company expand its business to other countries. They later merged with American Express, and then American Express bought MasterCard. With these three giants in the credit card business, it is no surprise that the logo they have come up with has become so popular. The first version of the logo has no color scheme or background at all. Instead, there is just a single color shade that is in white on a light blue background. This makes the logo easy to recognize. This is not the only design concept that the MasterCard logo uses though. The current logo has a great deal of detail that really brings out the image of a quality card.
One reason the company decided to use this old logo was because it was a very simple logo washer. The problem with this design concept was that there was no attention to detail. The logo washer could easily get confused with the actual logo. The result of this lack of attention to detail is that a lot of people have had issues with the clarity of the images on the back of their cards. There are even some people who have had problems reading the fonts on their MasterCard credit cards.
Another major problem with the design was that the only way to see if the logo was working correctly was to look at the clock face. If everything on the background matched the design, then the card was probably printed correctly. Unfortunately, the design concepts were outdated. Therefore, this logo was changed to create a new look.
Instead of using a basic black background, the new MasterCard logo was redesigned to use a red background. This change, though it gave the company a refreshed look, also meant that the logo was no longer easily confused with the background on the credit card. The change in background resulted in a few other design changes as well. For example, the logo no longer featured a picture of Jesus. Instead, the image was changed to something more generic, such as an angel or a symbol.
In addition to changing the logo, another thing that was done was add a new tagline to the card. This tagline changed from being “The MasterCard Way” to “Your Company's Way To Succeed”. It is interesting to note that the tagline did not change much from the old concept. Instead, it was changed to fit the new logo concept. It is doubtful that this was done to coincide with the new logo design, since no one was really sure what the new logo would look like.
Though the design concepts for the new MasterCard are pretty much the same as those of the old logo, there are some subtle differences that can be seen when looking at the actual cards. For example, the font has been increased from the large, blocky type of the old logo to a thinner, lighter version of MasterCard fonts. In addition, the background color has also been changed to a lighter shade. In terms of the artwork, it has been enlarged and blurred so that the characters on the card have a much more blurred appearance. The overall effect of the card is one of chaos, since it is difficult to determine what is going on at times.
All in all, the new logo is a relatively simple concept. Though it is different than the old MasterCard logo, it still has its own recognizable look. Some may not be happy with the new logo, but they can't really say that it is anything but a radical improvement over the old concept. As with most things in life, though, we are all individuals, and everyone is free to make their own decisions when it comes to fashion. What one person believes is important may not be what another person thinks is important, so it will probably come down to what you think looks best.
