Verified by Visa is a worldwide web security measure for Visa credit and debit cards which nowadays goes by the label of Visa Secure. It is sometimes called Vbv/vc and is basically designed to prevent your card information from being stolen when shopping on the internet. There are many ways this protection is applied to. You have to apply at least one of the methods mentioned below:
VISA Secured by Enterprise-level Payment – This is the most comprehensive and extensive type of security program. Visa secure merchants usually include Visa Secure Exchange Service (VSES) in their standard set up. The premise of this transaction is that the organization (the merchant) becomes part of an international payment system. In return, all Visa cardholders will be subject to the same type of security measures applied to their account.
An example of a participating Visa Secure E-Commerce site includes Alba Online, Earthlink, Hotwire, KIK, Paydotcom and WorldPay. These merchants have committed to Visa Secure Exchange Service. When cardholders make a purchase at one of these participating websites they will be subject to the same secure payment measures as those applied to their accounts at Visa. A cardholder will not need to present an ID or prove ownership of an account to make a transaction.
An example of a non- Participating Visa Secure E-Commerce site includes e-Coupon. Non-participating Visa secure merchants include CardFellow, Cepia, Fasttone and JVZoo. Non-participating Visa secure merchants do not have an exchange program. A cardholder will not be subject to the same security measures as cardholders at participating Visa sites
A participating merchant that has chosen the Visa Secure Exchange Service is issued a V embassies security card with a unique, bar code. The V stands for the Visa logo and E stands for the Electronic Fund Transfer. Merchants can choose to use either the padlock icon or the three-digit hex value. Merchants that have chosen the Electronic Fund Transfer option are issued a credit card with an embedded magnetic stripe, rather than having to provide physical security to cardholders.
A participating merchant will only be issued one set of pins per card per customer. That allows for speedy, efficient transaction processing. The VISA secure symbol is featured on both the front and back of the credit card. To make a purchase all a person does is insert the pin into a padlock that is located on the bottom back of the card. After entering the PIN, the transaction is instant. That's how convenient shopping online can be.
Visa is a company that works hard to keep its customers' personal information secure. They also work hard to make their transaction process as user-friendly as possible. The standard Visa card is featured with a lock and pin lock to ensure that only you can access your personal information. For additional security, they offer additional security features such as encryption to help keep out any unauthorized charges. For merchants who choose to use the Electronic Fund Transfer feature, they must go through a third party provider so the details of the transaction do not end up in the wrong hands.
Online shopping is becoming more popular everyday. With the ability to shop from your home or anywhere you may happen to be, it is now possible for millions of people to take advantage of using the Visa secure system to make online purchases. This convenient process is made even easier by Visa's Secured Shopping Online feature. Whether you want to buy airline tickets, make a purchase over the Internet, or pay for rental cars, this is how it works.
