The new PayPal debit Mastercard is yet another way for PayPal to earn more money for the business while giving you even more ways to spend the funds from your PayPal account. Unlike many other bank credit cards, the PayPal debit Mastercard isn't a member of any bank network, so virtually no ATM is free for PayPal debit cards except it's an off-site ATM. That said, there are still a few differences between the two cards.
Like a credit card, you can use a PayPal debit card to pay for goods or services in the same way that you would pay with a credit card. You make the payment, you sign and verify, and you are done. And like a credit card, you can use your PayPal debit card at any place where an ATM is available. So that pretty much covers the world. Except for the two exceptions mentioned below.
There are certain establishments in the United States that are not covered by either a bank account or a credit card. So if you want to shop at these stores – generally outdoors or at night when they aren't open, you'll have to use another form of payment – like a hand-held device such as a cell phone. It is possible to obtain a non-Mastercard debit card at most major retailers. However, these cards usually have a small fee for using them. So if you don't want to pay fees, you will need to pay with a bank account or credit card.
If you prefer to pay someone else in another form, like a credit card, you will still be able to withdraw money from your PayPal account. To do this, simply go to the PayPal website, create a login, and add funds to your existing bank account. Also, you can add funds from an ATM. You'll log in to your account and can use your credit card to make purchases. You can also withdraw cash from an ATM.
In addition to cash back, you can also earn rewards from shopping at the Mastercard website. You can redeem points, or “miles”, for every dollar of eligible shopping. For example, you can redeem miles for airline tickets, hotel stays, etc. When you are near the end of your eligible shopping trip, you can redeem your mile value.
Like a credit card, you can log in to your account to set up checks and transfer funds from your bank account. You can also withdraw money from PayPal. However, unlike a bank account, you can't withdraw cash from your PayPal account overseas. You also cannot withdraw funds from an ATM outside of the United States. So if you live outside the US, you'll have to either wait for someone to come to accept your currency, or convert your PayPal payment into cash before you use your card abroad.
The good news is that you don't need to travel overseas to get your cash back rewards. You can get paid cash back from almost everything that you buy with a MasterCard or a PayPal debit card. You can get paid cash back from shopping at stores, services, and other websites. You can even get paid cash back from participating in online surveys.
If you travel outside of the United States frequently, you can use your debit card or PayPal to withdraw money from ATMs of banks throughout the world. So even if you are not a US citizen and have no bank account, you can still enjoy these rewards. But if you are a resident of the US and want to enjoy those rewards as well, you will have to open an account with a bank in the United States and have access to a US bank. It's really that simple.
