Luang Prayag (LPR) is the phonetic spelling of the NGAO Ruk Luum (Nguyen Gia), the traditional Thai title for the NGAO. Prayag means “one who calls himself a Prayah” or “one who calls himself a Princess”. In most cases, the person who wishes to call him a “Princess” is someone his mother or sister would know. When he gives out his NGAO Ruk Luum, he wants his mother and or sisters to know that he is a boy who loves them very much, even though he is away from home.
Many people who are familiar with Thailand will easily recognize the phonetic NGAO Ruk Luum, which is commonly called Prayag. In addition to being a phonetic spelling, Prayag also means “prin” and “ua”. Because Prayag means “prin” in Thai, many in the tourism industry refer to him as a “prin suparat”. A prince is referred to as a princess by royalty in some cultures. Therefore, Prayag is known as a prince, not a princess.
When someone calls Prayag, he is speaking to someone whom he refers to as “prin zi” or “the hoi sin”. To most people, he is referring to himself. This may be because of the pronunciation of his name, which is closer to “Pree ye” (meaning “bay”), but is closer to “Pray zi” (meaning “bay me”). Another explanation could be because of the way he speaks, which makes him sound more like a lawyer or a secretary. In his villa, there is only one telephone number that is displayed on the television – his cell phone.
The NGAO Rukta team was not sure how to approach this task. They had the address of the owner of the number and knew that Prayag frequently changed his number. It was easy to find the number through the phone directory since it listed the business that owned the telephone line. But this was not the same for Prayag. In fact, he did not even have a phone. His landlord had given Prayag a mobile so that he could pay the rent.
It took months for the NGAO to track down Prayag's real identity. He lived in Phuket, Thailand. When they located him, they were still not certain whether they had found the target credit card phone number. However, when they presented the evidence to Prayag, he immediately knew who they were looking for. They handed over the mobile to the police and made Prayag available for questioning.
