The first set of Visa Bulletin August 2021 predictions covers the period leading up to the start of the year. It looks at how the predictions in the Visa Bulletin will affect the economy in general, and specifically the economies of Australia, Canada, India, South Africa, and United States. One prediction states that the Indian economy will experience one of the biggest boosts in its slowest growth rate since the turn of the millennium, while the US will continue to enjoy a boom as well with more companies planning on doing business in India. However, analysts are quick to point out that such growth is dependent on factors that can not be predicted accurately.
For instance, the use of the visa debit card is expected to grow by twenty percent, while visa credit cards will see a fifteen percent increase. According to the predictions in the Visa Bulletin, Australia is one of the fastest growing destination countries for the visa debit card. This is because Australia is offering visa-free access to its visa debit card for its citizens. In addition, visa cards are expected to offer significant cost savings and convenience to Australian travelers. As a result, more travelers are likely to avail of the benefits that such cards bring.
A prediction in the Visa Bulletin states that the Indian economy will experience the largest boost in its slowest growth rate ever. However, analysts believe that this prediction is somewhat dependent on the actual growth that the Indian economy experiences. The predictions do point to an increase in disposable income for Indian individuals as more Indian women marry foreign men. The use of the visa debit card also points to an increase in spending power among Indian males. On the other hand, the US visa bill presented by the Trump administration is expected to reduce the number of immigrants into the country by approximately half. This reduction is estimated to cause a significant economic impact on both sides of the fence – employers in the US and employees in the US.
The predictions also shows that Australia's population will continue to outpace the population of its closest neighbor, New Zealand. Immigration to Australia from the United Kingdom is predicted to slow down considerably while the population of the country continues to grow steadily from 1.1 million in the year ending July to 1.5 million in the year ending October. The United States is the second largest immigrant country in the world after India. The US visa bill is currently undergoing review in Congress. The impact of the legislation is still to be seen.
The predictions does not mean that Australia is immune to the threat posed by the US visa bill. There have been reports that the Australian government has discussed measures to counter visa fraud originating from the United Kingdom. The Australian government has already launched a program to allow employers to check applicants' backgrounds prior to accepting them for work. The program is open to skilled workers only. Visa debit card predictions do not indicate that the program would be popularly adopted by employers in Australia, given the fact that only skilled workers may be allowed to use the card to make purchases, and then have their payment debited from their account.
In the midst of all the uncertainties, it appears that the United Kingdom has the upper hand as far as the future of visa reciprocity is concerned. On the one hand, the Australian government has shown its seriousness in addressing potential visa fraud originating from the United Kingdom. On the other hand, the UK's post-exit withdrawal from the European Union also casts a shadow over the direction of visa policies.
